star wars episode viii

Today, Disney announced that they will be changing the release date of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII, appropriately just titled ‘Episode 8’ for now because there is no subtitle as of yet. The original release date was to be May 26, 2017 and now its December 15, 2017.

Perhaps this is due to the overwhelming success of the December release of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. Traditionally Star Wars films were released in May but Episode VII’s December release happened to net Disney and Lucasfilm the highest domestic release in movie history, so they just may be onto something here.

Borys Kit, a reporter for The Hollywood Reporter seems to believe it is due to other reasons such as script rewrites.

Episode VIII is still being written by Rian Johnson and is set to go into production in London next month.
